Lithuanian mezzo-soprano Gabrielė Kupšytė is one of the most exciting young voices on the international opera stage. In the upcoming 2025/26 season, she will take on major roles including Dorabella (Così fan tutte), Sesto (Giulio Cesare) and Hänsel (Hänsel und Gretel), further establishing her reputation for versatility, vocal brilliance, and dramatic intensity.

Currently an ensemble member at Oper Leipzig, her 2024/25 season saw standout performances as Octavian (Der Rosenkavalier), Hänsel (Hänsel und Gretel), Wellgunde (Das Rheingold), Second Lady (Die Zauberflöte), Clotilde (Norma), Flora (La traviata) and Melibea (Il viaggio a Reims). She also appeared at Staatsoper Hannover in Rusalka, impressing audiences with her expressive stage presence and radiant tone.

Between 2022 and 2024, Gabrielė was a member of the prestigious Jette Parker Artists Programme at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, performing roles such as Kate Pinkerton (Madama Butterfly), Second Lady (Die Zauberflöte), Second Nymph (Rusalka), Inez (Il trovatore), Flora (La traviata), Arminio (Arminio), Third Maid (Elektra) and Mercédès (Carmen). She also covered principal roles including Preziosilla (La forza del destino), Charlotte (Werther), Dorabella (Così fan tutte) and Lola (Cavalleria rusticana), collaborating with conductors such as Sir Antonio Pappano, Sir Mark Elder, Nicola Luisotti, Maxim Emelyanychev, Semyon Bychkov, Daniel Oren, Antonello Manacorda, Kevin John Edusei and Keri-Lynn Wilson. Gabrielė made her Royal Albert Hall debut as Laura in Tchaikovsky’s Iolanta, performing with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra under Vasily Petrenko.

Her artistry has earned her international recognition: she was nominated in the ‘Young Singer’ category at the 2023 International Opera Awards and honoured by the Global Lithuanian Awards for her contributions to representing Lithuania abroad. The Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theatre named her Opera Hope of the Year, celebrating her debut as Romeo in I Capuleti e i Montecchi under Sesto Quatrini.

Gabrielė holds an Advanced Diploma in Opera from the Royal Academy of Music, London, where she received the Carr-Gregor Trust Scholarship and Isabel Jay Memorial Prize, and is an alumna of the Mascarade Opera Studio in Florence. She is a two-time participant of the Georg Solti Accademia, studying with luminaries including Roberto Frontali, Barbara Frittoli, Grace Bumbry and Richard Bonynge, and completed her undergraduate studies with honours at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre.

Her repertoire spans a rich variety of roles, from the title role in La Cenerentola at the New Generation Festival, to Véronique in Le docteur Miracle with L’Orchestre de Chambre de Genève, as well as Chérubin, Prince Athamas (Semele), The Dog (The Cunning Little Vixen), and La Chatte / L’Écureuil (L’enfant et les sortilèges) with Royal Academy Opera. With her dramatic versatility, glowing tone, and compelling stage presence, Gabrielė is recognized as one of Europe’s most promising young mezzo-sopranos.
