Lithuanian mezzo-soprano Gabrielė Kupšytė is currently an ensemble member at Oper Leipzig. Her 2024/25 season included Octavian (Der Rosenkavalier), Hänsel (Hänsel und Gretel), Wellgunde (Das Rheingold), Second Lady (Die Zauberflöte), Clotilde (Norma), Flora (La traviata) and Melibea (Il viaggio a Reims). In the same season, she also appeared at Staatsoper Hannover in Rusalka. In the upcoming 2025/26 season, she will appear in productions such as Dorabella (Così fan tutte), Sesto (Giulio Cesare) and Hänsel (Hänsel und Gretel).
Between 2022 and 2024, Gabrielė was a member of the Jette Parker Artists Programme at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. Her performances there featured Kate Pinkerton (Madama Butterfly), Second Lady (Die Zauberflöte), Second Nymph (Rusalka), Inez (Il trovatore), Flora (La traviata), Arminio (Arminio), Third Maid (Elektra) and Mercédès (Carmen). She also covered a range of principal roles, including Preziosilla (La forza del destino), Charlotte (Werther), Dorabella (Così fan tutte) and Lola (Cavalleria rusticana). During this time, she collaborated with conductors such as Sir Antonio Pappano, Sir Mark Elder, Nicola Luisotti, Maxim Emelyanychev, Semyon Bychkov, Daniel Oren, Antonello Manacorda, Kevin John Edusei and Keri-Lynn Wilson. She also made her debut at the Royal Albert Hall as Laura in Tchaikovsky’s Iolanta, performing with Vasily Petrenko and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
Gabrielė was nominated in the ‘Young Singer’ category at the 2023 International Opera Awards and was honoured by the Global Lithuanian Awards for her contributions to representing Lithuania on the international stage. She was named Opera Hope of the Year by the Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theatre, where she made her debut as Romeo in I Capuleti e i Montecchi, conducted by Sesto Quatrini.
An alumna of the Mascarade Opera Studio in Florence, Gabrielė holds an Advanced Diploma in Opera from the Royal Academy of Music, London, where she was awarded the Carr-Gregor Trust Scholarship and the Isabel Jay Memorial Prize. She previously completed her undergraduate studies with honours at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre. She has twice participated in the Georg Solti Accademia, working with renowned artists such as Roberto Frontali, Barbara Frittoli, Grace Bumbry and Richard Bonynge.
Her earlier operatic repertoire includes the title role in La Cenerentola (New Generation Festival), Véronique in Le docteur Miracle (L’Orchestre de Chambre de Genève), Chérubin (Chérubin), Prince Athamas (Semele), The Dog (The Cunning Little Vixen) and La Chatte / L’Écureuil (L’enfant et les sortilèges) with Royal Academy Opera.
